Blue Jay at the bird feeder

Count some birds for science!

How often do you get to contribute meaningfully to an invaluable dataset, while listening to the radio and sipping your morning coffee?

The Great Backyard Bird Count runs February 12th-15th. This is the data folks use to establish ranges and population trends for the continent’s bird species through time. More than that- it tells you about the world you live in. Forces you to pay attention to something outside your head for fifteen minutes or an hour, if you want.

In times like these, after forty-five weeks of lockdown, it’s a nice reprieve.

Yes, will count! “A nice reprieve,” and focus for the larger world in which we live.

Awesome! And if you want to count birds year round for science there’s a site called eBird where you can report what you see any day and the data gets used for science and conservation.
