I launched this space more than a decade ago, a way for friends to check in as I traveled, worked, and explored the Beartooths and Absaroka range of Montana and Wyoming. It was an unreal experience, having Yellowstone in your backyard, getting well off the beaten path, where few ever go.
It’s wild- reading the news, watching video of unprecedented flooding, roads and homes washed away.
I thought about the folks at Parks Flyshop in Gardiner- one of those legit old-timey independent flyshops hanging on in a place and time rapidly given over to venture capital and Bro Culture. Brick and mortar, mail order, little online presence- they need foot traffic in a town currently accessible only by helicopter.
It’s a gut punch thinking about the damage, the recovery. It’ll never be the same.
Beautiful place and pictures, and I do hope *all* is safe, despite the floods.
